Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Romans 12:19-21
I used to struggle with this verse. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t at least put a hit out on my abusers. Even though I believe they also need to still feel the wrath of God. I still wanted them to feel MY wrath.
That is the moment God asked me , “will my wrath not suffice?”
He put into perspective that my wrath is a paper cut to what he plans to do.
God’s Vengeance is the BEST vengeance
In The verse above, you can clearly see that God already called dibs on taking revenge on your behalf. So once we try to take over a job that God himself claimed position over we instantly step into self idolatry. Idolatry is trusting in something other than God, to give your life significance. In that passage he is telling us to occupy our time with showing love to enemies and have faith that he’ll do what needs to be done.
GOD’S GRACE
One of the reasons God’s claims vengeance is because , God only strikes when the time is right. Though God has wrath, he also is peaceful, and the epitome of love. Those individuals who have done wrong, including you, he gives us time to repent and choose the path of righteousness. Bibically God usually strikes when people become too proud.
1 The LORD is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth.
2 Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve.
Psalms 94 1-2
FORGIVE SO HE CAN FORGIVE YOU
All in all . Not to give your enemies a pass on what they’ve done to you , but we all have fallen short from the glory of God. Though you have enemies, at one point you were an enemy to God. It is important to keep these things into perspective ,because the capacity that god has to forgive you he expects you to have that same capacity of forgiveness to forgive your fellow neighbor.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4 31-32
21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
1 Peter 2 21 -23
