First off, if you know what iconic TV show my title came from, I need you to DM me now so I can befriend you (@fonte.fit) .Now, this brings me to what this blog post is about. Just like in my title, Most of yall’s fascia is screaming, “I need water!” and you may be mistaking fascial dehydration symptoms for other dis-eases’. But, not to fear, your fellow fascia trainer , fonte.fit, is here! (:
Your fascia needs WATER!
The health of our body and everything in it, our cells, organs, bones etc, relies heavily on the moisture of our fascia. When our connective tissue is hydrated and fluid-like, our organs, skeletal & muscle systems are able to function its best without restrictions.
Our fascia is similar to glue. It secures and attaches everything in our body – it keeps everything in place. When the fascia in our body becomes stiff, hardened and dried out , it will affect your bodily function, your organ posture, your physique and much much more.
How does fascia get dehydrated?
Many things can cause fascia to get sticky , some are:
- low water intake
- Overworking the body with consistent movement
- Trauma (emotional , physical or spiritual)
- Lack of minerals in diet (improper diet)
- Sedentary lifestyle (A lifestyle of limited physical activity)
When your fascia is dehydrated and compressed, cells won’t be able to get vital nutrients. Certain parts of your body and/or organs wont be able to reach optimal nourishment. over a long period of time , if certain body parts have restricted blood flow for too long due to fascial restrictions, that particular part of the body becomes inhibited. When your body gets the signal that cells aren’t needed , our cells will start a process called apoptosis.
Apoptosis: the death of cells which occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organism’s growth or development.
I hope you’re able to understand now how, when fascia is dehydrated, it can cause many symptoms. Symptoms like chronic pain, digestion problems, emotional problems and much more. When the fascia is dehydrated, it is unable to absorb the vital fluid that carries needed nutrients, oxygen ,etc. This can affect the way your DNA is expressed.
You would think that drinking a ton of water will help to hydrate your fascia. Ironically , when your fascia gets dehydrated, drinking more water can actually exhaust your kidneys.
How to hydrate fascia
Hydration in the body is measured by how much water the body absorbs.
Most of the water that’s sold to us does not contain all the necessary minerals that the body needs to maintain optimal hydration internally. Electrolytes, carbohydrates, sodium, chloride, magnesium and calcium, are extremeley vital for healthy muscle and nerve function. They also play important roles to help the body to be able to absorb and use water successfully.
To hydrate my fascia I have been incorporating food grade diatomaceuos earth and sea moss. You can also start your hydration routine by adding celtic salt to your water, but that is not as fulfilling. Diatomaceous earth and sea moss are high in minerals and nutrients that’ll help the fascia and overall body systems to be able to absorb water .
Fun Fact : It can also kill off internal parasites.
The need for minerals in our diet makes sense when you realize that our bodies are made of dirt (minerals).
“the Lord God formed man from the dust of the earth. He blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.”
Genesis 2.7
When your fascia is restricted, there are parts of the tissue that’ll have a hard time receiving any fluids. Making sure that even the restricted/inhibited areas of the body receive proper fluids and blood its important to make sure you are incooparating myofascial releases in your workout routines.
Pros of hydrating fascia
- Better body symmetry and alignment
- Reduced risk of injury.
- Scar tissue breakdown
- Less pain and soreness.
- Increased blood flow, which helps with faster recovery.
- Scar tissue breakdown.
